Hair Growth Cycle
The stages of hair growth and shedding are explained below to help you understand the process.
Anagen
This active growing season for your hairs lasts anywhere between 2 to 7 years. At any given time, between 80%- 90% of the hair on your head is in the anagen stage.
Catagen
Known as the transition phase, the hair root shrinks for roughly two weeks, then detaches from the dermal papilla.
Telogen
Lasting 2-3 months, this resting phase accounts for roughly 10%-15% of your hair. Strands stay in place but do not grow during Telogen.
Exogen
Shedding to make room for new hair occurs during exogen. This phase causes loss of a hundred or so hairs each day.

Androgenic Alopecia causes hair loss in men
So, why are some people losing more than the natural growth phases account for?
Androgenic Alopecia:
Androgenic alopecia is the term doctors use to describe the most common, hormone-related hair loss in men. If a man has close family members with this condition, they can expect it to show up on their own scalp at some point also.
While women will see diffused thinning all over the head, men tend to experience characteristic male pattern baldness. It begins with receding at the temples and frontal hairline. A thin patch at the occipital region then forms. More widespread thinning of the crown progresses until the bald spot at the back meets up with receding hairline at the front. Eventually a well-known horseshoe-shaped band of hair remains at the back and sides.
Of course, not every man experiences full, severe hair loss through all the stages. One thing that’s essential for guys to understand is that the idea of thick hair as a sign of masculinity is false. Most hair loss in men is triggered by sensitivity to DHT, a hormone by-product of testosterone. An enzyme called 5 alpha-reductase (5-AR) converts testosterone to DHT. Nearly 10% of your testosterone produced each day will be converted to dihydrotestosterone ( DHT.) If you’re susceptible to hair loss because it runs in your family, DHT will bind with receptors in your follicles, so they shrink, weaken and die. This is called ‘miniaturization,’ and it’s one of the signs your experienced hair transplant surgeon will assess for during your consultation.
Solutions for Hair Loss in Men – What can you Expect During and After Your Transplant?
Our hair transplant procedures are performed under local anesthesia, and you will be able to return home the same day. You can expect some minor discomfort and swelling for the first few days after the procedure, but this will subside over time. In most cases, you’ll be able to return to work within a week and resume your regular activities within a few weeks.
That said, there are still some important pre-op and post-op instructions to follow past that point to ensure you don’t affect the newly transplanted grafts and have a successful hair transplant procedure.
When Will you see Your Results?
The timeline for seeing hair transplant results can vary from patient to patient, as well as depending on the specific type of procedure performed.
In general, after a hair transplant, the transplanted hairs on your scalp will fall out within the first 2-3 weeks. This is a normal part of the process, and it’s nothing to be alarmed about.
After the transplanted hairs fall out, they will begin to grow back, with new hair growth typically starting to appear within 3-4 months.
Over the next 6-12 months, the transplanted hairs will continue to grow and thicken, and the final results of the procedure will become more apparent. In some cases, it may take up to 18 months to see the full results of your hair transplant.
It’s important to keep in mind that the timeline for seeing results can vary, and that each patient’s experience may be different. Additionally, following the post-operative instructions provided by your expert can help ensure the best possible outcome from your hair transplant procedure

Are you a Candidate?
Are you wondering if hair transplant surgery will work for you?
Men usually find themselves in one of 7 general stages of the balding scale. The “Norwood Scale” helps classify early, mid and severe stages of hair thinning. One of the reasons it’s difficult to know your options and begin planning without an expert consultation is that you must determine what kind of thinning you have.
Telogen effluvium is characterized by rapid hair thinning. During the resting phase of the hair cycle, a shock to the system may cause those hairs to “let go.” Causes of shock loss include surgery, deprivation dieting, and emotional stress. Certain medications also lead to temporary hair loss in men. The best way to determine what’s causing your shedding and what options you have is to take the next step with a no-obligation consultation. Early intervention with a variety of proven surgical and non-surgical treatments is possible for you.
Don’t lose any more hair than you need to. Our experts can give you professional recommendations to help you hold on to the hair you have, and to restore it with the industry’s most advanced technology.
